Me

Born and raised in Calgary, I draw inspiration from movement, process, and the unknown. I am a muItidisciplinary artist and I work mostly with glass, ceramics, and light. I recieved my Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Major in Glass from Alberta College of Art and Design in 2014 and I am now blowing glass in Whitehorse at Lumel Studios. I am truly passionate about glass blowing and the time I get to spend working with the medium. The material of glass has created an amazing community that has brought me overwhelming happiness everywhere I travel.

I find it hard to contain myself when this world is full of so many amazing people and experiences. Thus, I also work with photography, paint, sound, and any medium that informs the concepts behind my work.

Documentation of Process

Within my exploration of multiple mediums, I have found that the creation process informs the concepts behind my work. While working with glass and ceramic techniques involving motion and balance, I investigate phenomenological experiences while using centrifugal force as a method of creating a combination of forms that have yet to be seen within the context of each medium.

Balance, motion, and process are essential when creating a symmetrical object in any medium. My work is a documentation of these elements and when using optical hot shop techniques, I can begin to create an object that uses form, shape, colour, and pattern, to reference the processes involved in the creation of these objects.

During my time at Alberta College of Art and Design I created a series of glass and ceramic objects that are similar to that of a spinning top. This kinetic series titled, A Documentation of Motion within Process, engages the viewer with the medium as well as allowing them to investigate the process in which the piece was created.

The techniques I have acquired while investigating these processes have propelled my passion for knowledge of phenomena and the unknown. The shapes and forms I am creating may reference simple shapes known to each medium, however, when combined, they create an object that can elevate the characteristics of each medium. Light, Optics, and Fragility are all facets of conceptualizing both ceramics and glass within a context of process.
